HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA

Liver cancer usually in patients with risk factors such as Hepatitis B and C, aflatoxin, alcoholic liver disease and
cirrhosis.

Clinical features

  • Presents with right upper quadrant pain, hepatomegaly with or without splenomegaly
  • Weight loss
  • Jaundice, ascites, and lymphadenopathy

Differential diagnosis

  • Liver metastasis
  • Liver abscess, hydatid cyst

Investigations

  • Abdominal ultrasound ( sonogram)
  • Alpha fetoprotein
  • Liver tests
  • Liver biopsy

  • Refer to a regional hospital or higher
